Agricultural Preserve Board

About the Board: The Lancaster County Agricultural Preserve Board was established in April of 1980 as authorized by Pennsylvania Act 442 of 1968 and Act 43 of 1981. The purpose of the board is to adopt rules and regulations, policies and procedures for the administration of a county farmland preservation program within the framework prescribed by Act 43, including Applications for preservation, Appraisal of land for preservation, determine minimum criteria of land for preservation, establish a selection of land for preservation through the farmland ranking system, review appraisals and approve offers to purchase agricultural conservation easements with county funds, including execution of agreements of sale and agricultural conservation easements, recommend offers to purchase agricultural conservation easements with state funds to the State Agricultural Lands Preservation Board. 

The board consists of 9 members appointed by the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners. The 9 members include 1 County Commissioner, 1 commercial, industrial or residential building contractor, 1 member of the governing body of a township or borough located within the county and 4 members must be active residents farmers of the County.
